Varnado suffered a 62-20 loss to Metairie Park Country Day in Friday’s game on the road.
Varnado coach Milton Green said the Wildcats were up 14-6, but let it slip away with miscues on special teams that resulted in 21 unanswered points.
“We shoot ourselves in the foot, but that comes with the territory when you have a young team. Country Day is a well known program and they showed us why,” Varnado coach Milton Green said. “They had a short field all night long, and when that happens, it usually comes out as points for the other team. But we must regroup, study film and stay the course. We had a couple players out Friday which also put us in a bind to play more young talent.”
Jaheim Hooks tallied two touchdowns.
He threw one 30 yards to Zyquantay Bickham and ran for another on a 20-yard run.
Bickham also recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.
Malik Patterson had 87 yards and a two-point conversion.
Varnado’s game this week against Amite was canceled because of a positive COVID-19 test at Amite.
Varnado, who is 1-2 this season, will be back in action on Oct. 30 against Kentwood at home.
