Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Bowling Green School’s Dixie Camaille

Bowling Green School’s DIxie Camaille plays softball and is co-Captain of the varsity cheer team.

Camaille plays first base for the softball team.

This season, Camaille made the Class 3A-5A All-Star Team. Camaille was a first-team all-district player last year and second-team player the year before. All-district for 2020 has not been announced yet.

Camaille was also the school’s Homecoming Queen this year.

“She is an irreplaceable piece to our program,” Bowling Green softball coach David Hood Burris said. “She’s been a member of the program since the six grade. There have been a few, but not many, players that I have had that bring her good attitude and are a great teammate everyday. She’s always willing to do whatever it takes to make the team better. It’s going to be hard to replace her in the dugout and locker room. It’s also going to be really tough to replace her on the field also. She’s a consistent .400 (batting average) type player that can hit the ball out of the park any given pitch with her power. She’s been in the top of our statistical leaders in hits, RBIs (runs batted in) and home runs each of the last three years.”

What do you enjoy most about playing your sports?

Just being part of a family and having that team atmosphere, knowing there are a lot of girls behind me supporting me. I’m big on family and Bowling Green has stressed family since I’ve been there.

What do you like best about being a student athlete?

Just challenging myself. Everyday, it’s the challenge of dual enrollment, sports and regular school and a social life and just making myself a better person all around.

Who has been the most influential person in your school sports career? Why?

(Former Bowling Green player and cheerleader, 2020 Bowling Green graduate) Hannah Varnado. She’s really shown me how to balance social life and being really good in school and a follower of God. She’s a good Christian and role model and the most inspirational person I know.

Who is your favorite athlete? Why?

Bailey Landry. She’s a former LSU softball player and a Catholic like me. I follow her on Instagram. She always talks about walking through life with God and playing the game for him.

Favorite team?

Bowling Green Lady Bucs.

Best thing about Washington Parish?

Just the family atmosphere, how everybody’s so open and loving. It’s so true about ‘Southern Hospitality’ everywhere I go.
