Bowling Green School’s Buccaneers erased a 14-0-halftime deficit and outscored Sylva Bay Academy, 20-0, in the second half in a 20-14 victory on the road Friday night.
“Our guys kept playing. We’ve got a gritty bunch. We just focused on the next play. We didn’t turn the ball over (in the second half) and they did. They threw two picks and had two fumbles,” Bowling Green coach Riley Boudreaux said about the second half.
Boudreaux said the Buccaneers drove the ball in the first half, but were unable to tally.
Kengie Gordon had a big game on both sides of the ball.
Defensively, Gordon forced three turnovers with two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
Offensively, Gordon tallied two touchdowns. He ran one in on a 5-yard rush and he caught one for 30 yards.
The receiving touchdown was on a pass from Javon Bickham.
Bickham tallied another touchdown on a 30-yard run.
Ethan Brock recovered a fumble.
Bowling Green is 5-2 this season and is seventh in powerpoints.
Bowling Green will return to action on Friday with a road game against Brookhaven Academy to cap off the regular season.
Brookhaven Academy is 5-4 this season.
“Brookhaven’s a tough team,” Boudreaux said. “They play hard, they throw it around the yard. They have an athletic quarterback. They’re tough to beat. It’ll be a good game Friday night.”
