Varnado High School’s Jaheim Hooks
Varnado’s Jaheim Hooks is a three-sport athlete.
The senior plays football, basketball and baseball. Hooks is a quarterback and safety in football, a point guard in basketball and centerfielder in baseball.
Hooks was a first-team all-district wide receiver in 2019 in football and he was a first-team all-district basketball player his sophomore year.
“Right now, Jaheim has risen to the occasion in his senior year of being a leader,” Varnado football coach Milton Green said. “He’s working daily on improving his game on the field, off the field, in the weight room and being our team leader. That’s all you can ask from a player. As he goes, the team goes. We have all of the trust in him that he’s going to make the right choices and put the team in the best position to be successful.”
What do you enjoy most about playing your sports?
I love my teammates, my coaches and running out there playing for my community.
What do you like best about being a student athlete?
It’s just the environment. It’s different than anything else and the fans come out to support you.
Who has been the most influential person in your school sports career? Why?
My momma (Monique Peters). She stays on me and tells me not to settle for this, the sky’s the limit and don’t give up.
Who is your favorite athlete? Why?
(Arizona Cardinals wide receiver) DeAndre Hopkins because he had a rough childhood, but he didn’t let that determine his future.
Favorite team?
Dallas Cowboys.
Best thing about living in Washington Parish?
It’s a great community, especially Varnado, and we’ve got the fair.
