Mrs. Juanita Rachel Pugh Magee was born on Sept. 21, 1928, in Mansfield. She was the sixth of 10 children born to the late Hebert Pugh and Carrie White Pugh.
As a child she paid for piano lessons through her selfless work polishing silver and completing odd tasks for wealthy citizens of Mansfield.
She was baptized at a young age at St. John Baptist Church in Mansfield.
She leaves to cherish her love and memory: two devoted children, Mr. Elvin Magee of Atlanta, Ga., and Mrs. Angela (Alton) Scott of Slidell; one grandson, Alton Scott II of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Sallie Pugh-Smith of Dallas, Texas, and Daisy Pugh-Watts of Dallas; One godson, Chad Harry; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, students, and church members. She also had an enduring 50-plus-year sister relationship with great neighbors, Mrs. Doris Brown and Mrs. Mary Galloway.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Mr. Elton Magee; her parents, Herbert and Carrie Pugh; and siblings, Lucy Pugh-Sanders, Maude Ethel Pugh, Jimmie Pugh-Sherman, Carrie Pugh-Franklin, Enola Pugh-Douglas, Herbert Pugh Jr., Charles Pugh, George James Pugh, Clarice Pugh-Sapp, Herman Pugh, and Horace Pugh.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 30, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Metropolitan Baptist Church, located at 1640 Charlevoix St. in Bogalusa.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at Metropolitan Baptist Church, with the Rev. M.J. Galloway, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Ponemah Cemetery, located at 1136 Louisiana Ave. in Bogalusa. Repast will be at Bethlehem Baptist Church, located at 837 E. Seventh St. in Bogalusa.
