Pair of local teams compete in tourney

Mt. Hermon School and Varnado competed in the Team Sportsplex Thanksgiving Classic, hosted by The Dunham School on Nov. 25-26.
Mt. Hermon tallied a 2-1 record. Mt. Hermon began the tournament with a 74-29 loss to the host school.
Tevin Williams posted 13 points, and Travell Brumfield had seven for Mt. Hermon.
The second game was a 65-63 victory over Family Christian Academy.
Mt. Hermon trailed by one with 1.5 seconds left. The Yellow Jackets inbounded from under their own basket. Michquel Spears caught the pass, attempted a 3-pointer, but was fouled on the play. Brumfield stepped to the line and made all three free throws for the two-point win.
Williams led the team with 20 points.
Tristan Brumfield tallied 15.
Spears went for 12.
Travell Brumfield missed a triple-double by just two points in an eight-point, 11-rebound, 10-assist performance.
Keondre Bunch had five, while Jordan Harrison posted three and Rashad Oatis added two.
Those two games took place on Monday, Nov. 25.
The next day, Mt. Hermon defeated Thrive Academy, 77-60.
Bunch led the way with 25 points, Williams posted 21, Travell Brumfield had 12, and Spears tallied 10.
Tristan Brumfield posted six, with Oatis adding two and Keey’Ontreh Williams adding one.
Varnado went 0-3 in the tournament.
The Brusly game was an 83-33 loss Monday, Nov. 25.
Michael Fland tallied nine points, six rebounds and he blocked two shots.
Miguel Fland recorded six points and three boards.
Kim McGowan posted six points, a rebound and two steals.
Varnado’s second game on that Monday was a 74-25 loss to The Dunham School.
Miguel Fland had nine points, four boards, an assist and three steals.
The final contest was an 87-52 setback against Assumption.
McGowan posted 15 points, three steals and an assist.
Quanta Peters posted 11 points and a steal.
Elizah Miller had eight points, five boards, an assist, two steals and he blocked a shot.
