Varnado, Bogalusa boys teams capture jamboree contests

The Bogalusa and Varnado boys basketball teams captured games in the Washington Parish Jamboree that was held Tuesday at Varnado High School.
Games had two 10-minute halves with a running clock until the two-minute mark, when standard clock operating rules took effect.
Bogalusa defeated Franklinton, 24-11, in the first boys’ contest of the night.
The Lumberjacks took a 14-3 lead at the 2:51 mark.
Leading 6-3, Bogalusa scored eight in a row.
Jaheim Roberts began the run with a bucket with 6:05 left in the first half.
Sincere Craft hit and shot, and got fouled with 5:09 on the clock, but could not convert the 3-point play. Bogalusa grabbed the offensive rebound and Chance Turner was fouled. He knocked down both free throws to complete the four-point possession.
Eric Graves made it 14-3 when he pulled down an offensive rebound and made the followup attempt.
Franklinton’s Kinte Wilson stopped the run with a putback off an offensive rebound to make it 14-5, but the Demons could get no closer.
It was 16-5 at halftime and Bogalusa led by as many as 14 at 24-10 late in the second half.
Josh Taylor led Bogalusa with five points while Karry Conerly posted four, A.J. Turner tallied three and Turner, Roberts, Quientay Henry, Daylon Jackson and Craft all put up two.
Jaheim Jefferson scored four points to lead Franklinton while Tradell Causey had three and Kinte Wilson and Albert Browhaw added two each.
Varnado won the next game against Pine, 27-12.
Pine took a 3-0 lead at the 8:21 mark on Karson Voth’s 3-pointer, but Varnado scored the next 11 points.
Quanta Peters Jr. made a layup to put the Wildcats on the board with 5:08 left in the first half. Michael Fland made a steal and hit the layup to give Varnado a 4-3 lead. Elizah Miller grabbed an offensive rebound and made the follow-up shot. Peters scored a pair of fastbreak layups for the next four points to make it 10-3. Miguel Fland passed to Caluntay Jackson, who was fouled and split the free throws with 2:04 left. Jackson pulled down an offensive board and made the putback 24 seconds later and it was 13-3.
It was 18-8 at halftime and the Wildcats’ lead never went below double digits after that.
Peters scored 10 points to lead Varnado in scoring and he made three steals.
Miguel Fland had five points, three steals and two assists.
Miller tallied five points, five boards, two steals and he blocked a shot.
Michael Fland and Jackson had three each and Miller added one in the win.
Voth led Pine with eight points while Lazaren Brown and Khalil Washington added two each.
All four teams start the regular season in the upcoming week.
Pine heads to Springfield on Monday. Franklinton is at home on Tuesday against Mt. Hermon. Varnado travels to Central Lafourche on Wednesday, and Bogalusa hosts Amite on Thursday.
