Pine, Varnado win jamboree games

Pine and Varnado’s girls basketball teams were victorious in the Washington Parish Jamboree that took place Tuesday at Varnado.
Games featured a pair of eight-minute halves with a running clock until the two-minute mark, when the standard clock-operating rules went into effect.
Pine defeated Franklinton, 10-3, in the opener.
The Lady Raiders jumped out to a 6-0 lead.
Alyssa Phelps tallied the game’s first points with 6:37 on the clock.
Raina Crosby scored Pine’s next four points and it was 6-0 with 2:43 to go in the first half.
Franklinton got on the board with 25 seconds left when Zykeriah Dykes hit a 3-pointer to trim the lead to 6-3 at halftime.
Pine outscored Franklinton 4-0 in the second half in the win.
Crosby scored four points to lead Pine while Kiyasha Clark had three, Madison Morgan posted two and KayKay Ginn added a point in the win.
Dykes had the three points for the Lady Demons.
Varnado defeated Bogalusa, 8-4, in the next game.
Bogalusa led 1-0 at halftime on a free throw by Marih Myles 16 seconds into the game.
Tamirecal Peters made it 3-0 with a shot inside with 6:26 left in the second half.
Varnado pulled within two on a free throw by JaMonica Dillon with 6:05 to go.
TaMarya Bell tied the game after pulling down an offensive rebound and hitting the putback.
Dillon scored what turned out to be the winning point on a free throw at the 4:02 mark and Bell made it 6-3 with 1:33 left.
Bell topped Varnado with four points while Dillon and Javonnie Bickham recorded two each.
Peters had two points while Myles and Deranique Lee posted one each.
Bogalusa, Franklinton and Pine open the regular season in the upcoming week while Varnado’s opener is in early December.
Pine starts the season on the road Monday against Springfield. Bogalusa travels to Covington on Tuesday, and Franklinton hosts Mt. Hermon on Tuesday.
Varnado will begin the regular season on Dec. 2 on the road against Bogalusa.
