Martin helps Franklinton run past Pearl River

Franklinton’s Mike Martin had an unforgettable performance in the Demons’ 43-28 victory over Pearl River, to cap off the regular season in a District 9-4A road game.
Martin ran for 192 yards on 30 carries and four touchdowns. Martin eclipsed the 1,000-yard plateau and is entering the playoffs with 1,015 yards and 22 touchdowns. Martin also caught two passes for 53 yards and a touchdown.
Jasper LaSalle threw for 149 yards on 11-of-15 passing and one touchdown. He also ran for 42 yards.
The receiving numbers were balanced, as five players caught passes.
Kadarious Mark had two receptions for 33 yards, Caleb Brown recorded two catches for 23 yards, and Cornelius Laurent posted two catches for 21 yards.
Quaran Warren had three catches for 19 yards. Warren also ran for 19 yards.
Defensively, Noah Breland led the team in tackles with eight to go with one for a loss.
Jaylen Simmons made seven stops and defensed a pass.
Corinthious Dickerson and Malachi Martin made five tackles each. Dickerson forced a fumble.
Chase Sheridan returned a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
Christian Burkhalter recovered a fumble and made two tackles.
Avant Monnie intercepted two passes.
Both teams will be hosting first-round Class 4A state playoff games.
Franklinton finished the regular season with a 6-4 overall record and 2-1 mark in district play. The Demons will host 19th-seeded George Washington Carver High School on Friday. Franklinton is the No. 14 seed in the playoff bracket.
Pearl River went 6-3 overall and 1-2 in district and will face No. 17 Leesville in the first round. Pearl River is the 16th-seeded team.
