Youth basketball league starting in Bogalusa
A new basketball league is getting under way in Bogalusa.
The Bogalusa Youth Basketball League will start in December and registration begins this month.
Derek Dantin, who is Ben’s Ford Christian School’s athletic director and assistant girls basketball coach, is the league director.
Helping out with the league are Mike Keen, Ken Martin and Landon Tims.
Keen is a fireman, he is on the YMCA Board and is a coach at Annunciation Catholic School.
Martin is a former longtime basketball coach at Bogalusa and served as athletic director for the Lumberjacks.
Tims is the head boys basketball coach at Ben’s Ford Christian School and City Parks and Recreation Director in Bogalusa.
The league is open for boys and girls ages 4-12. There are three age groups — 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12.
Signups take place on Saturdays Oct. 26 and Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. until noon
You can register at the YMCA everyday from 2 p.m. through 7 p.m.

Franklinton Soccer Club welcomes players from all over the parish
The Franklinton Soccer Club was established this year and is open to anyone above the age of 3.
The goals are teaching soccer skills and tactics, providing a safe, fun environment to learn and play soccer, and to foster sportsmanship and teamwork among soccer players. They are the only Louisiana state-affiliated soccer organization in Washington Parish.
The club will have two seasons each year with the first running from March 1, 2020 through May 2, 2020.
Franklinton Soccer Club is not a travel team. They will play and practice locally with a few exceptions. The goal is to give each team above the 10-year old age group the opportunity to play teams outside Franklinton two times each season. The other teams are fellow LSA members. They also would like to give each team above the age of 10 the opportunity to play in a tournament at the end of each season. The tournaments would involve other LSA teams and would be in Hammond, Covington or Baton Rouge.
The group will meet at First Baptist Church in Franklinton on Monday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. for a family meeting with dinner served. They will answer questions, begin sign ups, showcase uniforms, hear from the Executive Director of the Louisiana Soccer Association, and share a great meal.
