14-0 comeback, big 3rd quarter, Martin’s 5 touchdowns key in Franklinton victory

Franklinton got off to rough start, but rebounded in a big way, highlighted by a 35-0 third quarter, as the Demons were victorious over Jewel Sumner, 62-27, in a road game held Thursday. Mike Martin had five touchdown runs in the win.
The Demons trailed 14-0 after about the game’s first four minutes, but outscored Jewel Sumner, 56-6, over the rest of the first three quarters.
“We talked a good bit this week about being our best and playing to our standard and improving,” Franklinton coach Jonathan Barber said. “That was the mindset we took into the game. It didn’t start out well, but our kids competed and showed some resolve after a bad start. Once things started rolling, it was fun to be a part of.”
Franklinton led 21-20 at halftime and then the 35-0 quarter made it 56-20 through three.
Martin ran 21 times for 138 yards and five touchdowns, as the Demons racked up 250 yards on the ground.
Bryan Williams posted 59 yards on five carries and a touchdown.
Spencer Lamber had 26 yards on three attempts.
Quaran Warren tallied 19 yards on four attempts.
Jasper LaSalle threw for 180 yards on 10-of-15 passing with two touchdowns and an interception. LaSalle also ran for 17 yards on five carries.
LaSalle’s two touchdown throws went to Cornelius Laurant and Lambert.
Laurant had 16 yards receiving and Lambert caught 12 yards catching. Both had one reception.
Caleb Brown caught four passes for 98 yards.
Kadarious Mark posted a catch for 18 yards.
Shimon Davis caught a pass for 15 yards.
Javan Hart made one catch for 11 yards.
Martin had a reception for 10 yards.
Defensively, Deerail Kemp and Corinthious Dickerson made six tackles each. Dickerson also recovered a fumble.
Malachi Martin tallied four stops, three behind the line and a sack.
Ben Bickham, Noah Breland, Kendarius Brumfield, Chase Sheridan, Jacob Turnage and Shelton Jenkins all made three tackles. Sheridan had two stops behind the line. Breland made a tackle behind the line and recovered a fumble.
Avant Monnie, Blaine Bulloch and Keyon Nelson all had a pair of tackles. Bulloch and Nelson both forced fumbles.
Laurant, Trey’un Walker, Lamar Gray, Williams, Jaylen Simmons, Tradell Causey, Jaylin Magee, De-Airreous Magee and Dallas Kemp all had one stop. Jaylin Magee recovered a fumble.
The Demons improve to 3-2 after their second-straight win. Franklinton is back in action on Friday to begin a two game homestand, starting with a game against Belle Chasse.
