Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Franklinton High School’s Kayla Barclay

Franklinton’s Kayla Barclay is a three-sport athlete for the Lady Demons. The senior plays volleyball, soccer and softball.
In volleyball, Barclay is a setter. In soccer, Barclay plays right-center midfield and she is an outfielder and shortstop in softball.
Barclay was a first-team all-district soccer player her sophomore season.
“She’s shown a lot of potential from day one. She’s highly dedicated and motivated,” Franklinton volleyball coach Caleb Mulina said.

What do you enjoy most about playing your sports?
I enjoy seeing myself grow as a person and seeing how much I improve over the years in sports. It kind of gives me a good feeling about how I’ve changed over the past couple of years.

What do you like best about being a student athlete?
I like the feeling of being on a team and not feeling like lazy.

Who has been the most influential person in your school sports career? Why?
It’s coach Leslie (McGhee) and coach (Drew) Brooks, the head softball coach and the head soccer coach, because they’ve always pushed me to do my best in everything I do.

Who is your favorite athlete? Why?
Franklinton soccer and softball player Ashlan Ard because she’s always been there to help me and support me through everything and help me learn as a player.

Favorite team?
U.S. Women’s Soccer Team. I like seeing their fundaments and how they work. It makes me try to bring stuff to practice at soccer that we could do.

Best thing about living in Washington Parish?
It’s a smaller town and everybody knows everybody, so it’s easier to get around and it’s easier to play because you already know the people somewhat, so that means you can make a better bond being on a team.
