Franklinton defeated Tylertown out of Mississippi, 30-18, on the road Friday.
The Demons were without head coach Jonathan Barber, who suffered a seizure earlier in the day.
Barber’s mother-in-law was heading to the flag raising at the courthouse and dislocated her ankle when she stepped off a curb. Barber got her vehicle to take her to St. Tammany Hospital. It was about a two-block drive to pick her up, but Barber suffered a seizure and ran into a tree during the drive to pick her up.
Barber was released, but had to watch the game from the end zone of Tylertown’s stadium to keep Barber from being overheated and to keep his stress-level down.
Barber was in the handshake line following the win.
Andy Perez was the acting head coach, but Barber said it was a group effort.
“It was a great win for us,” Barber said. “Our kids dealt with adversity throughout the entire week with a lot of negative attention coming from peers and the community, but they executed. Somebody told me after the Bogalusa game (35-30 loss) that they hoped this wouldn’t affect us for the rest of the season and I told them that we have a resilient group.”
The Demons trailed 18-15 through three quarters, but Franklinton outscored Tylertown, 15-0, in the final period in the 30-18 victory.
Franklinton forced four-straight turnovers to end the game.
Mike Martin recorded 138 rushing yards on 29 carries and three touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 35 yards and another touchdown.
Jasper LaSalle threw for 120 yards and a score.
Quaran Warren ran for 12 yards.
Kadarious Mark made three catches for 52 yards.
Caleb Brown tallied a pair of receptions for 33 yards.
Defensively, Malachi Martin and Noah Breland recorded five tackles each. Martin intercepted a pass and Breland tallied a sack.
Chase Sheridan and Trey’un Walker made four stops each and both recovered a fumble. Sheridan also had a sack.
Deerail Kemp and Lamar Gray posted three tackles each. Kemp had a sack.
Avant Monnie, Jaylen Simmons, Spencer Lambert and Keyon Nelson all posted two tackles. Monnie had three passes defensed.
Jacob Turnage, Brown, Corinthious Dickerson, Blaine Bullock and Stacy Ard all added one stop for the Demons.
Ben Bickham had a pass defensed and Kendarius Brumfield forced a fumble.
The Demons are 2-2 this season. Franklinton is back in action on Thursday when they travel to Jewel Sumner. Jewel Sumner is 1-3 and enters this week, following an 18-7 loss to St. Michael the Archangel.
