The Varnado High School Wildcats defeated the Crescent City Pioneers at home on Friday, 37-0. The Wildcats went into the game coming off a shutout win over Thrive Academy the previous week.

Varnado put up four touchdowns in the first half of the game. The Wildcats took possession of the ball two minutes into the game after a fumble by Crescent City was recovered at the Pioneers’ 24-yard-line. In scoring range, Zyquantay Bickham threw the ball to Jaheim Hooks in the end zone. The extra point kick went wide and the score was 6-0.

With just under six minutes left in the first quarter, the Wildcats scored again with a handoff from Bickham to Korterrius Mingo from the 2-yard-line. The Wildcats couldn’t make the extra point and the score became 12-0.

The second quarter opened with the Wildcats pushing through for a third touchdown just five seconds in, following a handoff from Kim McGowan to Zantonio Peters from the Crescent 22. The extra point was blocked and the score went to 18-0.

The Wildcats put their fourth touchdown on the board as the halftime buzzer sounded with a pass from Bickham to Peters. Bickham threw the ball from the Pioneers’ 49, Peters caught it at the 24 and ran it in. The Wildcats picked up the extra point with a kick from Charles Wash and the score was 25-0 at the half.

The second half had much of the same, as the Wildcats put another two touchdowns on the board.

Halfway through the third quarter, McGowan ran in a score with a quarterback keeper from the Crescent 20. The Wildcats didn’t make the extra point and the score moved to 31-0.

In the last touchdown of the game, Bickman passed to McGowan from the 14-yard-line. Already in the end zone, McGowan caught it and put the final score to 37-0 after the extra point attempt missed.

The Wildcats improved to 2-0 and will travel to play East Iberville next week.
