Varnado High School’s Jaylen Peters

Varnado’s Jaylen Peters is a three-sport athlete. The senior plays football, basketball and baseball.
In football, Peters is a running back and linebacker. In basketball, he’s a guard, and in baseball, Peters plays second base, shortstop and catcher.
Last year, Peters was an all-district honorable-mention player in football.
“Great kid. Humble kid. He took the challenge of working hard and being accountable and being a leader,” Varnado coach Milton Green said. “He leads by example, instead of talking about it. We count on him to be an anchor. We count on him and the rest of the senior class to be leaders and to take this program to the next level.”

What do you enjoy most about playing your sports?
I like playing my sports because they keep me doing something, instead of just being at home bored without anything to do.

What do you like best about being a student-athlete?
I like playing sports, because when you play sports, you make friends and build brotherhood. Then, the coaches can help you out and they can teach you a life lesson and make you become more of a young man, instead of just being around. Then, it can keep you out of trouble too. So, it’s a good thing.

Who has been the most influential person in your school sports career? Why?
It’s been coach Green ever since he’s been here, because he pushes me and he motivates me to do better than what I really can do. He’s the one that’s seen me do good and he’s trying to help me play college football at the next level.

Who is your favorite athlete? Why?
Running back Marshawn Lynch, because we both have the same position and then I like the style he runs. He’s very humble and he plays with great passion.

Favorite team?
San Diego Padres.

Best thing about living in Washington Parish?
I like living in Washington Parish because there’s not too much that goes on in Washington Parish. It’s not the best place to be, but it’s better than nothing. And most of my family is around here, so I enjoy being around family also.
