Ben’s Ford Christian School’s Austin Stogner

Ben’s Ford Christian School’s Austin Stogner plays several sports for the Eagles, in football, baseball and track/field and he will try out basketball this year.
In football, the senior plays running back and middle linebacker. On the diamond, he is a first baseman. In track/field, Stogner throws the discus and the shot put and he runs some relays. Stogner was made it to the Class AA South State meet last year in the discus.
“Austin’s always been a hard worker,” Ben’s Ford Christian School coach Tommy Pittman said. “He’s come out this summer and he’s been one of our most faithful guys. He’s gotten stronger, faster. For the most part, he’s pretty coachable and he’s a leader. How he responds to things a lot of times how the team responds, he responds positive or negative, I just hope that over these years, he realizes a lot of kids look to him. I’ve enjoyed working with him. We’re gonna miss him because he is such a hard worker and he’s coachable.”

What do you enjoy most about playing your sports?
I love bringing the team together and making us all better. Just trying to lead my team to a victory. Just teamwork and it makes me happy when I see my teammates doing good and it makes me proud.

What do you like best about being a student athlete?
I just like playing football. Student comes before the athlete. I try my best in the classroom, but ultimately, I just love playing football.

Who has been the most influential person in your school sports career? Why?
(Ben’s Ford football coach) Brother Tommy (Pittman). He’s wise. He always gives us good help and guidance. He’s always been there for us if we need anything. He’s been a big help.

Who is your favorite athlete? Why?
New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley. He has tree trunk legs. He’s just a big, strong, physical player. I like him because he’s an elusive back. He hurdles people all the time, he’s fun to watch.

Favorite team?
LSU Tigers.

Best thing about living in Washington Parish?
The watermelons. They’re pretty good. I get them every year.
