Campers will be competing on the hardwood this Saturday, as the 13th Sports Work Academy Basketball Camp takes place at the YMCA on Avenue B in Bogalusa.
“This time of year, the excitement really starts to come full circle,” co-camp director Michael Galloway said. “People have been working on this camp for about five or six months and you get to see all of that work come to fruition. It’s also exciting for me because I get to come back home. It’s not only about the camp for me, but it’s also about seeing my family and friends in Bogalusa.”
Galloway is a 1985 Bogalusa High School graduate. He was an all-district 8-3A player for the Lumberjacks. After high school, Galloway went to and graduated from Dillard University.
Galloway is a co-camp director with Nikita Wilson.
The rest of the coaches are Murrell Galloway, Terrence Jones, Ereyanna Magee and Johnny Magee II.
Murrell Galloway is a 1981 Bogalusa High School graduate and former All-District 7-4A performer with the Lumberjacks.
Jones, who played football, was inducted into the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. He was drafted by the then-San Diego Chargers in 1989 and played in the Senior Bowl that year.
Ereyanna Magee is a senior forward at William Carey University and was an all-district player at Oak Grove High School.
Registration for the camp costs $20 and will open at 8:30 a.m. The clinic will start at 9 a.m.
Johnny Magee II was an all-district football and basketball player at Oak Grove and signed with Jones Community College for the upcoming season.
