Locals took to the links on Monday to begin play in the Washington Parish Golf League at Franklinton Country Club.
“I am excited about the turnout (Monday),” League Director and Bowling Green School golf coach Aaron Lott said. “We had a lot of kids show up and enjoy a great day of tournament golf. This was our first event for this summer and we couldn’t be happier. The kids learned a lot about how to compete in a tournament environment. We have three more events scheduled for this summer and would love to see even more kids come and enjoy the game.”
Monday’s play featured 14 competitors across three age groups, 10-12, 13-14 and 15-18, and they play a different number of holes.
The 10-12s play five holes while 13-14s compete on nine holes and 15-18s are going all 18.
The top three finishers from each age group were awarded.
Jackson Barrentine captured the 10-12s with Alex Brock coming in second and Will Deas was third.
Jeremy Bryant was the winner in the 13-14s.
The 15-18s were won by Rece Dillon and Tyler Stafford took second.
Taylor Jarrell was the winner in the girls’ 13-18 age group.
Madison Lott was runner up and Kami Passman was third.
The league, which is open to Washington Parish residents ages 10-18, continues on June 17.
All tournaments take place at the Washington Parish Country Club.
There are awards for the top three in each age group for each tournament.
There is an overall award, not by age group, at the end of the year. Points are given based on where players finish in each tournament and that goes for the overall award.
