Varnado’s Wildcats held an intersquad game on Friday.
The game was a Blue and White contest. The Blue Team was offense and the White Team was on defense.
The offense collected six points per touchdown.
Points were awarded defensively for three-and-outs, turnovers and pick sixes. They got two each for three-and-outs and turnovers and 10 for a pick six.
The Blue Team won 24-12.
“We want to focus on the community,” Varnado coach Milton Green said. “We had a great turnout from the community and from the administration, teachers and board members. They rooted the kids on and we’re excited about that. We want thank them for that. We want to have a big fan base.”
Green said the energy, the respect and the pride factor and keeping your head up were the biggest things they wanted to focus on.
“The kids focused on their assignments,” Green said. “It’s a new system and we executed it. We didn’t have any turnovers with the first team and they didn’t put the ball on the ground. That was big. We want to be fundamentally sound and that’s something we wanted to focus on and we were.”
The offense scored four touchdowns with two through the air and two on the ground.
Zyquantay Bickham caught a 17-yard pass from Benny Jarvis.
Kennis Loper threw to Trevin Haynes on a 25-yard touchdown pass.
Jaylon Peters ran for a 25-yard touchdown.
Korterrius Mingo tallied on a run after he ran for 65 yards to set up the score.
The defense had a touchdown when Quovadia Bickham intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown.
