Varnado’s Quincy James and Jarvis James combined to compete in three events during the Class 1A state meet held Friday, May 3 at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium.
Quincy James was in the high jump and 400 meters.
James ran fifth in the 400 with a time of 51.82 seconds. KIPP Booker T. Washington’s Robert Sears won in 48.11.
James took seventh in the high jump after clearing the bar at 6 feet. James tied Jonesboro-Hodge’s Datre’vien Bowie and North Central’s Juwan Milburn for fifth. The tiebreaker is fewest misses, so Bowie was fifth, followed by Milburn and James. Jonesboro-Hodge’s Reggie Shallowhorn won the title at 6-9 and missed the class record by one inch and the composite record by only three inches.
Jarvis James was seventh in the 800. He ran the race in 2 minutes, 12 seconds. Cedar Creek’s Collins Walker took the title in 1:59.
