Pine’s Clark, Cotton competed at Class 2A state meet at LSU

Pine’s Makia Clark was fifth in the discus and Markell Cotton was seventh in the long jump during Friday’s Class 2A state meet that took place at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium.
Clark threw the discus 108 feet, 10 inches. Patrick Taylor Science/Technology’s Janee Kovacs won the state title with a throw of 117-5.
Cotton long jumped 19-8.75. Catholic of New Iberia’s Trey Amos was the state champion with a distance of 22-9.75.
In order to reach the state meet, athletes must make it through two qualifying meets. They must come in the top four in their events at the district meet.
That puts them in regionals.
At regionals, they must come in the top three to advance to the state meet.
