Franklinton High School Color Run

The Franklinton High School Color Walk/Run Race takes place Saturday, May 4.

The event benefits the school’s track and field teams.

The cost is $30.

The color walk/run is a two-mile course where participants are doused with color at various color stations ending with one final color celebration at the finish line.

Lewis V. Murray Memorial Golf Tournament

The inaugural Lewis V. Murray Memorial Golf Tournament takes place on Saturday, May 11 at the Bogalusa Country Club to help benefit the Bogalusa High School football team.

The two-person scramble costs $200 per team.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the event gets under way at 8 a.m.

Lunch will be provided.

Sponsorship packages are between $100 and $500.

Franklinton Sports Camp

Franklinton High School is hosting a sports camp May 28-31 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day for boys ages 6-14.

The sports will be football, baseball and basketball.

Participates will be coached by Franklinton coaches and student athletes.

Pre-registration costs $60 per participant. That ends May 23. After that, the cost is $75. Walkups are welcome.

Franklinton football fundraiser

Franklinton High School’s Football Team is holding a mattress fundraiser May 25 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The team is selling mattresses in the school’s gym at discounted prices.

Franklinton softball camp

Franklinton High School’s is hosting a Total Skills Softball Camp May 28-30 for ages 5-14 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Fundamentals of all areas of the game will be emphasized through drills and team play. Participants will be placed into groups according to their ages and abilities.

Campers are asked to bring softball pants or shorts, a T-shirt, sun visor or cap, cleats, glove, their favorite bat and sunscreen.

Lunch will be provided, the concession stand will be open after lunch for purchase of snacks and drinks and each camper will receiver a camp T-shirt.

The cost is $75 for all-day campers and $50 for morning campers. Morning campers go from 8 a.m. until noon.

Share the Rock Basketball Camp

The Share the Rock Basketball Camp is taking place at the Bogalusa YMCA on Avenue B from June 3-5.

The clinic runs from 8 a.m. until noon each day.

The cost is $30 per child and is open to boys and girls ages 10-14.

Legends All-Pro Football Camp

The 2019 Legends All-Pro Football Camp takes place on Thursday, June 13 at Lewis V. Murray Jr. Stadium on the campus of Bogalusa High School.

The 16th annual clinic runs from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

This year’s feature coach is former Franklinton High School quarterback and LSU running back Terrence Magee, who played for the Memphis Express of the Alliance of American Football League.

Several other coaches include former NFL player, former NFL Scout and current Bogalusa assistant football coach Bruce Plummer, who is the camp director.

The rest of the coaches are Bogalusa head football coach Adam Brumfield and former NFL players Robert Smith and Sean Smith.

Registration is free.

SWA Camp coming up in June

The 13th annual Sports Work Academy Basketball Camp takes place on Saturday, June 15 at the Bogalusa YMCA on Avenue B, beginning at 9 a.m.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. the day of the camp and costs $20.

The camp is run by co-Camp Directors Michael Galloway and Nikita Wilson.

Galloway, who is 1985 Bogalusa High School graduate and a Dillard University graduate, was a District 8-3A All-District point guard for the Lumberjacks.

Wilson went to LSU and is a former McDonald’s All-American basketball player and was drafted by the Portland Trailblazers in 1987.

The rest of the coaches are Murrell Galloway, Terrence Jones, Ereyanna Magee and Johnny Magee II.

Galloway is a 1981 Bogalusa High School graduate and former All-District 7-4A performer with the Lumberjacks.

Jones, who played football, was inducted into the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. He was drafted by the then San Diego Chargers in 1989 and played in the Senior Bowl that year.

Ereyanna Magee is a senior forward at William Carey University and was an all-district player at Oak Grove High School.

Johnny Magee II was an all-district football and basketball player at Oak Grove and signed with Jones Community College for the upcoming season.
