Pine’s McKenzie ties for 10th in the state tournament

Pine’s Tanner McKenzie tied for 10th in the Division III State Tournament that took place Monday and Tuesday at the Wetlands Golf Course in Lafayette.
McKenzie recorded rounds of 78 and 76 in the 36-hole two-day tournament for a 154.
McKenzie tied Catholic of New Iberia’s Asa Tibbs, The Dunham School’s John Thornton and Ascension Episcopal’s Canon Clark. Ascension Episcopal’s Eli Ortego won the state title with a 142.
He captured the title by three strikes over Loyola Prep’s Holden Webb and Episcopal’s Boyd Owens, who both tied for second with a 145.
The Dunham School’s Ryan Dupuy was fourth with a 147 and University Lab’s Clayton Brown rounded out the top five with a 150.
Ascension Episcopal won the team title with a 606.
The top four golfers’ scores from each team were used in determining team scores.
Loyola Prep was second with a 625, followed by University Lab’s 629, Catholic of New Iberia’s 631 and The Dunham School’s 645.
