Pine’s Clark competing in Class 2A state meet

Pine’s Makia Clark qualified for state in Wednesday’s 3-2A Regional that took place last Wednesday at Tad Gormley Stadium.
Clark is headed to the state meet in the discus.
Clark was runner-up in the event with a throw of 92 feet, 7 inches. Patrick Taylor Science/Technology’s Janee Kovacs won at 105-5.5.
Wednesday’s meet was a qualifier, as the top three finishers from each event made it to the state meet. The Class 2A state meet will take place Friday, May 3, at Bernie Moore Stadium on the campus of LSU.
Clark was seventh in the shot put at 26-11.5. Northlake Christian School’s Leah Whittington won at 31-5.5.
Pine’s 4×200 and 4×100 relay teams were 10th and 11th respectively with times of 2 minutes 10 seconds and 1:00. Both teams included Nadia Jung, Ateria Williams, Breanna Brumfield and Jaden Story.
St. Katherine Drexel won both events, running the 4×100 in 50.63 seconds and the 4×200 in 1:44.
Williams was 14th in the 200 at 29.73. Martin Luther King Charter School’s Simone Pierre won in 25.44.
Story was 16th in the 400 at 1:33. St. Thomas Aquinas’ Breanna Becerra won in 59.69.
St. Katherine Drexel won the team competition with 107 points, as 18 teams tallied at least one point.
St. Thomas Aquinas was second with 85, followed by Patrick Taylor Science/Technology with 79, Louise McGehee’s 49 and Isidore Newman’s 46. Pine tied Springfield with 12th with eight points.
