Bogalusa’s Lumberjacks were defeated by Iota, 13-3, in five innings on the road Tuesday in the Class 3A state playoffs, capping off a historic season.
This was the first time Bogalusa’s baseball team has made the playoffs since 2005.
“It was a good season,” Bogalusa coach Michael Cummings said. “The kids bought in. The kids worked their tails off. The season was their season, like I told them. I had some young ones playing because we only had three seniors.
“The sophomore class is strong, led by Jarvis Dawson, Josh Taylor and Chance Turner. We’re getting better every year. It’s a slow process. That’s what I told the kids, was that we had three kids that stuck with baseball. That’s how you build a successful program, by sticking with it.
“We’re happy with making the playoffs this year, but their goal is to move further in the playoffs.”
No. 28 Bogalusa had three seniors in Chas Smith, Marlon Myles and Charles Allen.
“They’re hard workers,” Cummings said. “They’re gritty players. They’re not scared of anything and they step up in moments we need and they love baseball.”
In the game, Tyrese Rousell recorded an RBI double and he tripled.
Smith tallied an RBI double and he stole home.
Jaylon Scott posted a hit.
Bogalusa trailed 9-0 after one inning and 13-0 through two.
The Lumberjacks scored a run in the third and two in the fourth.
Fifth-seeded Iota began a best-of-three series against 12th-seeded Jennings on Friday, April 26, at home. Jennings won, 9-0, over No. 21 Union Parish.
