BHS’s Roberts, Wager capture MVPs in District 7-3A Meet

Bogalusa’s Dustin Wager and Raheem Roberts won MVP awards, Wager and Clydeterrious Thompson captured multiple events and Bogalusa took second in the District 7-3A Meet that took place Wednesday at Jewel Sumner.
Roberts won the MVP for field events.
Wager was the Track MVP.
Wager was victorious in two events — the 1,600 meters and 3,200 — and took second in the 800. Wager ran the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 3 seconds, the 3,200 in 11:52 and the 800 in 2:16. Teammate Donald Lewis was third in the 800 at 2:17. Archbishop Hannan’s Victor Harvey won the 800 in 2:13.
Roberts won the triple jump, was second in the high jump and third in the javelin and 200 meters. Roberts triple jumped 43 feet, 2.5 inches, high jumped 5-10, threw the javelin 132-6 and ran the 200 in 23.38 seconds. Thompson was second in the 200 at 22.51. Teammate Kerry Conerly was fourth in the high jump at 5-8. Jewel Sumner’s Miquiel Shields won the high jump at 6-2. Archbishop Hannan’s Eli Caillouet was the javelin winner with a throw of 145-3. Jewel Sumner’s Richard Lee topped the 200 in 22.49.
Thompson was a double-event winner in the long jump and the 400, and he was second in the 100 and 200.
Thompson long jumped 22-11.5 and clocked a 49.52 in the 400. He ran the 100 in 11.04. Conerly was third in the 400 at 54.60. Lee won the 100 in 11 seconds. Haikem Thompson was sixth in the long jump at 19-7.5.
Bogalusa had one more top finisher in the 4×800 relay team with a time of 9:16. The group featured Wager, Davin Phillips, Lewis and Dre’Toris Mark.
Bogalusa came second for the team competition with 134 points, as five teams scored at least one point.
Jewel Sumner won the meet with 155 points.
Archbishop Hannan was third with 56, followed by Loranger’s 32 and Albany’s 18.
Wednesday’s meet was a qualifying event. The top four finishers from each event are headed to regionals. The Region 3-3A Meet takes place at West Feliciana on Wednesday.
Several more Lumberjacks are headed to regionals.
Conerly was second in the pole vault at 9-0. Jewel Sumner’s Colby Sloan cleared the 10-9 bar to win.
Mark and Ty Johnson both qualified in the each hurdle event.
Mark was second and third in the 110 and 300 hurdles with times of 17.29 and 45.26 respectively. Johnson was third and fourth after clocking a 17.36 and 46.29.
Bogalusa’s 4×400 relay team was second and the 4×200 group was third. The 4×400 team ran a 3:46 and the 4×200 squad tallied a 1:36. The 4×400 team had Johnson, Lewis, Conerly and Hakiem Thompson. The 4×200 team featured La’Darious Spikes, Donald Lewis, Shadwick Gamble and John Downey. Archbishop Hannan won the 4×200 in 1:35 and Jewel Sumner was the 4×400 winner at 3:37
Kalik Foster qualified with a third-place tally in the discus with a throw of 97-3. Jewel Sumner’s Chester Martin won the event with a distance of 132-1. Phillips was sixth in the discus at 82-6.
Rounding out the top-six finishers, Foster and Kevin Wells were fifth and sixth in the shot put at 33-3 and 31-9. Martin won the event at 44-1.
