Pine captures District 9-2A Championship

Pine is the 2019 District 9-2A champion in baseball.
“Our team couldn’t be happier winning our first district championship in school history,” Pine coach Blake Dillon said. “The players and coaches have been working extremely hard to obtain this goal for our team. Our team has been relentless overcoming adversity, preparing for this district championship, and a run in the playoffs. We feel our team is hitting stride and we are right where we want to be entering the last week of the season. I’m so proud of where this program has come over the last eight seasons — we went from an easy win on everyone’s schedule to a district champion.”
The Raiders won the title after winning the final league game of the year on Friday with a 5-0 victory over Northlake Christian School, following an 8-1 loss in the road doubleheader.
In the 5-0 win, Kaden Fersch tallied two hits with a run batted in and a run scored.
Logan Temples posted two hits, including a triple.
Kendall Sheridan hit a solo home run for the Raiders.
Coby Sheridan singled, drove in a run and scored a run.
Chase Cooper singled and scored a run.
Will Adams had a hit and an RBI.
Luke Fonda singled.
Karson Voth tallied a run.
Fonda threw a complete-game shutout, allowing four hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
In the opener, Pine trailed 5-0 after two innings and 7-0 through five.
Coby Sheridan had both of Pine’s hits.
Kaden Fersch scored a run.
On Monday, Pine fell to Jewel Sumner, 15-10, in non-district action.
Fonda tallied three hits and two runs scored.
Temples recorded three hits, two RBIs and a run scored.
Adams singled, doubled, drove in three runs and scored two runs.
Cooper had a pair of hits, including a double and a run scored.
Devan Whaley doubled, drove in a run and he scored a run.
Coby Sheridan singled, recorded an RBI and a run scored.
Fersch singled and scored a run.
Ian Turner and Kendall Sheridan singled.
Blaine Polk scored a run.
