BHS’s Thompson, Roberts win MVPs at Strawberry Relays

Bogalusa’s Clydeterrious Thompson and Raheem Roberts won “Most Valuable Player” awards at the Strawberry Relays that took place Friday at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond.
Thompson was the Overall MVP.
Thompson captured first in four events — the 100 meters, 200, 400 and the long jump.
He ran the 100 in 11.12 seconds, the 200 in 22.50, the 400 at 50.49 and Thompson long jumped 21 feet, 6 inches. Tyron Johnson tied Springfield’s Bryce Johnson for seventh at 17-9.
Bogalusa’s Jerry Conerly was eighth in the 400 with a time of 55.60.
Roberts was the Field MVP.
He was victorious in the high jump and triple jump and was third in the 200.
Roberts high jumped 6-0, triple jumped 43-1 and completed the 200 in 23.39. Conerly was second in the high jump after clearing the 5-8 bar.
Dre’Toris Mark took second in the 300 hurdles after clocking a 45.26 and teammate Tyron Johnson was fifth in 47.57. Jesuit’s Jacob Torres won in 40.25.
Switching to relays, Bogalusa was third in the 4×200 and 4×800, fourth in the 4×100 and fifth during the 4×400. The Lumberjacks ran the 4×200 in 1 minute, 35 seconds, the 4×800 in 9:14, the 4×100 in 47.78 and the 4×400 in 3:54.
The 4×100 team featured John Downey, Joshua Taylor, Shadwick Gamble and Ta’Lyn Williams. The 4×200 group was Downey, Taylor, Roberts and Gamble. The 4×400 squad had Conerly, Davin Phillips, Donald Lewis and Mark. The team of Phillips, Lewis, Mark and Dustin Wager ran the 4×800.
Jesuit swept the relays, the 4×100 in 44.79, the 4×200 in 1:33, the 4×400 at 3:38 and 4×800 in 8:37.
Bogalusa was second in the team competition with 107 points, as 12 teams scored at least one point.
Jesuit won the meet with 129 points with Walker’s 83.5 third, followed by Live Oak’s 82 and Covington’s 61.
In other individual competitions, Taylor and Tony Harris were fifth and 13th in the javelin with throws of 130-4 and 100-7. Live Oak’s Luis Almonte won at 142-9.
Mark was sixth for the 110 hurdles in 19.08. Jesuit’s Kohlmann won in 17.58.
Kalik Foster was eighth in the discus at 95-11. Covington’s Melvin Bates’ 113-2 throw was the winner.
Wager and Lewis ran ninth and 10th in the 800 with times of 2:16 and 2:17. St. Thomas Aquinas’ Logan Lucas clocked a 2:02 to win.
Wager and Phillips ran eighth and 14th in the 3,200 with times of 11:52 and 14:13. Live Oak’s Jack Earle topped the event in 10:18.
Wager was 12th for the 1,600 with a 5:15. Covington’s Shane Ricks won in 4:49.
Conerly recorded a 12th-place finish for the pole vault at 10-0. Lafayette’s Elijah Odinet won with a height of 15-6.
Dejon Zeno and Foster were 12th and 15th with distances of 31-7.5 and 30-3.5. Covington’s Jonathon Calhoun won at 43-2.
