Ben’s Ford Christian School scored four runs over the first two innings and pitcher Brandon Sprehe made that offense hold up in a 4-2 victory over Christian Collegiate Academy at home Tuesday.
Ben’s Ford scored a run in the first and three more in the second.
Tucker Keating singled to right centerfield with one out in the first and moved to second on a hit-and-run groundout by Sprehe. Tyler Winstead was next and he plated Keating with an RBI single to left center.
Banyan Penton started the second-inning rally with a single to right centerfield before moving to second when Payton Miller advanced him with a groundout. Penton went to third on Isaac Wascom’s single to centerfield. Penton and Wascom scored on back-to-back RBI singles by Ernesto Woods and Keating. Sprehe sent Woods home with an RBI groundout to make it 4-0.
Keating talked about the confidence that the second inning gave the Eagles.
“I believe that gave us a bunch because small things get bigger things started; more-and-more happens, so it just carries on the confidence to more,” Keating said.
That was enough for Sprehe, who got into one major jam when Christian Collegiate Academy loaded the bases with nobody out in the sixth.
Austin Clolinger walked, Brandon Deer was hit and Micah Spinks singled to fill the bases. Sprehe did a good job of limiting the runs after that, as the next two hitters — Cody Hilton and Casey Clanahan — recorded RBI fielder’s choices that plated Clolinger and Deer. Ben’s Ford got the force out at second on both plays and then Sprehe struck out the next hitter to end the inning and keep the 4-2 lead.
The Eagles took that lead to the seventh. Sprehe retired the first hitter. Kameron Moffitt singled and then Sprehe came back with strikeouts to end the game.
Sprehe threw a complete game, allowing two runs on three hits with 10 strikeouts, two walks and a hit batter. At the plate, he recorded an RBI.
