BHS’s Thompson wins 2 events, FHS’s Brown tops 1 in Cowboy Relays

Bogalusa’s Clydeterrious Thompson was a double-event winner and Franklinton’s Caleb Brown won an event at the Cowboy Relays that took place at Jewel Sumner on March 29.
Thompson was victorious in the long jump and the 400 meters.
Thompson long jumped 23 feet and ran the 400 in 51.31 seconds. Teammate Kerry Conerly was also in the top six with a fifth-place finish in the 400 with a time of 55.72.
Brown captured the javelin with a throw of 146-0. Teammate Jasper LaSalle took third at 134 feet, 10 inches.
Three more locals were runner-up in events — Thompson, teammate Raheem Roberts and Franklinton’s Lorenzo Hart.
Thompson was second in the 200, clocking a 23.01. Kentwood’s Raymontre Palmer, the Outstanding Track winner, topped the event in 21.91.
Roberts finished second for the triple jump at 43-2. Outstanding Field winner Kentwood’s Cornelius Dyson won at 44-2.
Hart took second for the high jump, clearing the 5-10 bar. Conerly, Franklinton’s Lavan Smith and Jewel Sumner’s Daquan Carson tied for fourth at 5-8. The tiebreaker is fewest misses, so Conerly was fourth, followed by Smith and Carson. Kentwood’s Kejuan Magee won at 6-0.
Three individuals and two relay teams were third in Thompson, teammate Dre’Toris Mark and Quantavios Brumfield along with Bogalusa’s 4×200 and Franklinton’s 4×100 relay teams.
Brumfield was third for the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 14 seconds. Bogalusa’s Dustin Wager was fifth in 2:16. Amite’s Richard Sopsher won in 2:12.
Mark was third in the 300-hurdles in 45.32. Teammate Ty Johnson was fifth with a 49.01. Dyson won in 39.97.
Thompson was third in the 100 with an 11.15. Franklinton’s Kian Conerly took fifth in 11.59. Palmer won in 10.90.
Bogalusa’s 4×200 team ran a 1:35. The team featured John Downey, Tony Harry, Roberts and Zamariyon Washington. Kentwood bested the event in 1:31.
Franklinton’s 4×100 team tallied a 45.60. The group had Cameron Sims, Lamar Gray, Brian Williams and Conerly. Bogalusa was sixth at 47.42. The group was Ta’Lyn Williams, Downey, Harry and Washington. West Feliciana won in 43.48.
The rest of the local individuals that were top six finishers were Bogalusa’s Mark along with Franklinton’s Carson Ragas, Spencer Lambert and Brumfield. Bogalusa’s 4×400 relay team was also a top-six finisher.
Bogalusa’s Conerly tied Jewel Sumner’s Michael Lee for fourth in the pole vault. The tiebreaker is fewest misses, so Conerly was fourth, followed by Lee. Both cleared 8-6. West Feliciana’s Aiden Holland posted a 12-6.
Wager was fourth in the 1,600 at 5:03. Brumfield ran a 5:15 for sixth. West Feliciana’s Emery Godke topped the event in 4:55.
Bogalusa’s 4×400 relay team was fourth in 3:58. The team had Wager, Donald Lewis, Davin Phillips and Mark. Jewel Sumner’s 3:35 was best in the event.
Mark ran fourth in the 110 hurdles in 19.08. Dyson was the winner in 15.47.
Ragas was fifth for the shot put with a distance of 37-9.5. Kentwood’s Derek Cohn won at 48-3.5.
Lambert took fifth in the discus with a throw of 120-9. Jewel Sumner’s Chester Martin was the winner at 133-7.
Kentwood won the team competition with 160 points, as eight teams recorded at least one point.
Jewel Sumner was second with 118, followed by West Feliciana’s 103, Bogalusa’s 81 and Franklinton’s 45 to round out the top five.
