Pine’s Thomas ties for 1st in league play

Pine’s Brooklyn Thomas tied for second place in Tuesday’s nine-hole tournament at Carter Plantation in the Northshore Golf League.
Thomas posted a 54 for the nine holes and tied Northlake Christian School’s Kara Lewis.
Pope John Paul II’s Emberynn Spring recorded a 51 to win in the field of 12.
Northlake Christian School’s Natalie Newberry had a 58 for fourth and St. Thomas Aquinas’ Abby Portranent rounded out the top five with a 60.
Also for Pine, Denique Hewitt and Dalanna Rester carded a 62 each.
Two teams qualified for team honors, as schools needed two golfers.
Pope John Paul II won team honors with a 102 with four teams qualifying.
Northlake Christian School was second with a 112, followed by Pine’s 116.
In the boys, Pine’s Kyle Sirgo and Javarius Cooper tied for fifth with a 52 each.
St. Thomas Aquinas’ Tim Tran won the event with a 40 in a field of 26.
Pope John Paul II’s Jack Legion was second with a 45, followed by Springfield’s Beau Husser’s 48 and St. Thomas Aquinas’ Nick Faulk recorded a 50 to take fourth place.
Also for Pine, McCauley Keaton tallied a 55 and Rehys Templet put up a 50.
St. Thomas Aquinas won team honors with a 208, as five schools qualified for the team competition. Four golfers were needed.
Pine was second with a 222, followed by Springfield’s 225, Pope John Paul II’s 231 and Northlake Christian School’s 234.
