Pine’s McKenzie wins Thursday’s tourney

Pine’s Tanner McKenzie was victorious in the Northshore Golf League and Pine’s Deniqua Hewitt tied for the win at Abita Springs Golf Club on Thursday.
McKenzie carded a 37 in the nine-hole event to top a field of 26.
Pope John Paul II’s Jack Legion was second with a 42, followed by St. Thomas Aquinas’ Tim Tran, Springfield’s Beau Husser’s 48 and Albany’s Micah Cleveland’s 49.
Pope John Paul II won the team competition with a 207.
Pine was just three strokes behind with a 210 for second.
St. Thomas Aquinas was third with a 220 and Springfield was fourth at 221.
Four teams qualified for points. The top four golfers from each team were used to determine point totals.
In the girls’ event, Hewitt tied Pope John Paul II’s Lauren Gillio for top individual honors with a 53 each.
Pope John Paul II’s Bailey Broullette and Northlake Christian School’s Kara Lewis tied for third with a 54 each, and St. Thomas Aquinas’ Abby Portranent rounded out the top five with a 55 in a field of 10.
Pope John Paul II won the team competition with a 107, as three teams qualified for team honors.
Pine and Northlake Christian School tied for second with a 112.
The top two golfers from each team were used for team scores.
