BHS’s Thompson takes 5th in long jump

Several Bogalusa and Franklinton athletes competed in the Sugar Bowl Track and Field Classic on Saturday in New Orleans’ City Park.
Franklinton teammates Spencer Lambert, Dakota Gulsby, Jasper LaSalle, Caleb Brown, Carson Ragas and Mason Givens, along with Bogalusa’s Clydeterrious Thompson, were all in the meet.
Thompson was fifth in the long jump, 12th in the 200 and 16th during the 100. Thompson long jumped 22 feet, 8 inches. St. Thomas More’s C.J. Hill won with a distance of 23-11.
Thompson ran the 200 in 22.92 seconds while Whitehaven High School’s Emmanuel Bynum won in 21.42.
Thompson’s 100 time was 11.27, as John Curtis’ Corey Wren won in 10.41.
Franklinton had six athletes with two each competing in the discus, javelin and shot put.
Lambert and Gulsby were 12th and 35th in the discus. Lambert threw a 113-9 and Gulsby recorded a distance of 91-4. North DeSoto’s Johnny Mitchell’s winning throw was 153-3.
LaSalle and Brown finished 12th and 17th in the javelin. LaSalle posted a 134-0 and Brown tied for 17th with Holy Cross’ Trevor Termine at 126-8. D’Arbonne Woods Charter School’s Jacob Bridges won at 177-11.
Ragas and Givens were 42nd and 48th in the shot put. Ragas’ distance was 36-3 and Givens had a 34-0. Mitchell was the winner at 51-11.5.
Ouachita Parish won the team portion with 47 points, as 44 teams scored at least a half of a point.
Rustin’s 37.5 was good for second, followed by East St. Louis’ 30 and Scotlandville and Edna Karr tied for fifth with 28 each. Bogalusa was 39th with two points.
