Mt. Hermon’s Hughes captures Outstanding Field Athlete

KENTWOOD — Mt. Hermon School’s Kalei Hughes was the Outstanding Field Athlete in the Cowgirl Relays that took place on Friday at Jewel Sumner.
Hughes was a double winner. She captured the shot put and the javelin. Hughes’ shot put distance was 29 feet, 5 inches and Hughes threw the javelin 101-8.
Franklinton’s Aleria Dillon was third in the shot put at 27-7. Varnado teammates Tamarya Bell and Sharday Williams finished seventh and ninth with distances of 23-9 and 20-10 and Mt. Hermon School’s Ansley Knight took 10th after posting a 20-4.
In the javelin, Bogalusa’s Prayja Bickham threw an 87-7 for third place. Franklinton’s Danaria Magee and Varnado’s Javonti Bickham were fifth and sixth at 74-2 and 65-0 while Varnado’s Tatihana Varnado and Mt. Hermon School’s Hannah Hughes were 11th and 12th with throws of 45-11 and 43-3.
Bogalusa’s O’Layzha Morris was victorious in the high jump after clearing the bar at 5-0. Franklinton’s Drahcir Magee was fifth at 4-6.
Bogalusa captured the 4×200 relay with a time of 1 minute, 54 seconds.
The team featured Khystian Scott, Bickham, Mary Ladner and Morris.
Franklinton was just over a second behind for runner-up at 1:55.
Varnado and Mt. Hermon ran sixth and seventh respectively with times of 2:03 and 2:05.
Franklinton’s runners were Jalyn Bickham, Tamirria Thomas, Derranajuh Warren and Kassidy Nielson.
Varnado’s team had Jamonica Dillon, Destiny Keys, Javonti Bickham and Javonnie Bickham.
Mt. Hermon’s competitors were Sydnei Tullos, Adrianna Tate, Destiny Elzey and Amuriel Williams.
Friday’s meet featured four local teams in Bogalusa, Franklinton, Mt. Hermon School and Varnado.
Varnado’s Jalisia Jackson was second in the long jump while Bogalusa’s Scott was third after posting distances of 14-10.5 and 14-10. Varnado’s Keys took sixth, Drahcir Magee was eighth and Mt. Hermon School teammates Ashiriah Williams and Katherine Quin finished ninth and 11th with jumps of 14-1, 13-3.5, 13-1.5 and 11-10.5. Loranger’s Amiracale Collins won at 16-8.
Franklinton’s Raelyn Gross and Bogalusa’s Ladner were second and third in the triple jump after recording a 29-9 and a 29-5. Bogalusa’s Terry Collins and Varnado’s Keys took seventh and eighth with jumps of 27-8.5 and 27-1. Fontainebleau’s Haley Pittari won after tallying a 30-6.5.
Bogalusa’s 4×100 relay team was second after running in 53.89.
The team featured Scott, Bickham, Ladner and Morris.
Franklinton was third at 53.91 while Varnado and Mt. Hermon ran in 57.53 and 1:00 for sixth and seventh.
Franklinton’s runners were Bickham, Thomas, Warren and Nielson.
Varnado’s team featured Debriana Weary, Keys, Jackson and Amber Fairley.
Mt. Hermon had Tullos, Tate, Elzey and Amuriel Williams.
Varnado’s Jackson was second in the 300-hurdles after clocking a 53.25. Franklinton’s Drahcir Magee was fourth and Mt. Hermon’s Jumyrie Williams was sixth after they ran the event in 58.38 and 1:29. Fontainebleau’s Blocker finished in 52.60 to win.
Mt. Hermon’s 4×400 relay team was the runner-up, with a time of 5:48. The team had Ashiriah Williams, Fortenberry, Jumyrie Williams, and Quin. Fontainebleau won in 4:41.
Varnado’s Javonnie Bickham led several local athletes in the 400 with a time of 1:09 for third. Franklinton’s Alexia Mason, Bogalusa’s Imani Jefferson, Franklinton’s Trinity Bryant, Mt. Hermon teammates Ashiriah Williams and Tullos and Varnado’s Shuntiara Nichols ran sixth, 10th through 14th in the 400 at 1:14, 1:19, 1:22, 1:31, 1:34 and 1:40. Fontainebleau’s Emily Audsley won in 1:06.
Franklinton’s Nielson was third in the 200 with a time of 28.14. Bogalusa’s Bickham, Franklinton’s Warren, Mt. Hermon’s Amuriel Williams, Varnado’s Fairley and Mt. Hermon’s Elzey were seventh and ninth through 12th after posting times of 29.53, 30.12, 30.31, 31.96 and 34.24. Jewel Sumner’s Jonee Sims won in 27.25.
Bogalusa’s Tenisha Miller, Mt. Hermon’s Tate and Mt. Hermon’s Jumyrie Williams ran fourth, fifth and seventh in the 100-hurdles with times of 20.91, 22.20 and 23.14. Outstanding Track winner Fontainebleau’s Whitney Blocker won in 18.69.
Franklinton’s Yvonne Tran took fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:57. Bogalusa’s Jefferson and Mt. Hermon School’s Bailey Fortenberry were seventh and eighth at 3:09.73 and 3:09.75. Fontainebleau’s Ashlyn Anderson won in 2:35.
Varnado’s Asia Magee was fifth in the discus with a throw of 67-10. Mt. Hermon teammates Hannah Hughes and Layla Riley were seventh and eighth with throws of 64-10 and 54-4 and Varnado’s Bell was 11th at 46-7. Fontainebleau’s Breanna Johnson won at 86-1.
Plenty of local athletes ran the 100, led by Bogalusa’s Miller’s fifth-place finish in 13.75. Mt. Hermon’s Amuriel Williams, Franklinton’s Gross, Varnado teammates Weary and Dillon, Franklinton’s Jada Robinson, Mt Hermon’s Tate and Bogalusa’s Scott ran seventh through 11th, 13th and 15th after clocking times of 14.04, 14.28, 14.64, 14.78, 15.23, 15.50 and 17.13.
In the team competition, Bogalusa was fourth with 53 points, followed by Franklinton’s 49 in fifth. Mt. Hermon’s 31 was seventh and Varnado’s 28 was eighth. Fontainebleau won with 224 points, as eight teams put up at least one point.
