Varnado High School’s Kameron Kemp-Fox

Varnado’s Kameron Kemp-Fox is a senior. Kemp-Fox is an outfielder and pitcher on the Wildcats’ baseball team.
“He’s a really good kid both in the classroom and on the baseball field,” Varnado coach Brad Cooper said. “He has really grown into a leader being on the baseball team here for several years now. The maturity that comes with being a senior has really shown in him, and as far being able to lead by example for the younger kids, he has been a tremendous asset both to the team and to the coaching staff in being able to help out the younger kids.

What do you enjoy most about playing your sport?
It’s fun. I have a lot of energy and once I’m playing baseball, I’m just focused. I’m keyed in to school and education. I feel like school is most important. Coming to school as a student-athlete is better than just being an athlete, because you can go somewhere with the books and by playing sports.

What do you like best about being a student-athlete?
Sometimes the away games, being able to travel and play different teams, really find out your ability and what you can do on the field and off the field to help your team. I like being a senior, being a leader towards the team, not just for yourself, but making the team better, not just focused on yourself. It’s a team thing at the end of the day. You’ve got to win as a team.

Who has been the most influential person in your school sports career? Why?
My momma and my grandma because they are on to me. You can’t play any type of sports if you have a bad attitude, bad behavior because the way people look at you, that goes everywhere. You’ve got to have some positive behind you.

Who is your favorite athlete? Why?
Mostly Atlanta Braves’ third baseman Josh Donaldson because you can go to any team by getting traded. As a third baseman, he’s the best third baseman I’ve seen so far because he can play anywhere to me. He can show that. He has an arm and his batting average. Just someone I look up to.

Favorite team?
Philadelphia Phillies.

Best thing about living in Washington Parish?
It’s a lot of talent that you’re being recognized for. It’s like, some people don’t really look at Washington Parish as much unless you show them that talent. Once you show them that talent, it’s kind of good that anyone in Washington Parish can make it out because some people don’t get looked at in high school until they get to college or something, so it’s a blessing.
