Franklinton relay team, Gross win at season-opening meet

Franklinton Raelyn Gross won the long jump and the Lady Demons captured the 4×200 relay race in the Ponchatoula Invitational that took place on March 1.
Gross took first place in the long jump at a distance of 29 feet, 8 inches. Teammates Yvon Tran, Drahcir Magee and Derranajuh Warren were fourth, seventh and eighth at 15-2.25, 13-10.5 and 12-9.75, respectively.
The Lady Demons’ 4×200 team, which ran the race in 1 minute, 55 seconds, consisted of Jalyn Bickham, Tamirria Thomas, Gross and Kassidy Neilson.
Nielson was third in the 200 meters after running it in 28.72 seconds. Teammate Warren was seventh in 30.27. Hammond’s Skyy Jackson won the race in 27.82.
Gross was third in the triple jump with a distance of 29 feet, 8 inches. Ponchatoula’s Talajha Hunter won at 33-2.5.
Magee had a pair of third-place finishes in the 300-meter hurdles and the high jump. Magee, Ponchatoula’s Chavanda Pierre, Covington’s Ginina Biodini, Ponchatoula’s Anya Pollard and Covington’s Synia Thompson all had a 4-6 in the high jump. The tiebreaker is fewest misses. Pierre was the winner, followed by Biodini, Magee, Pollard and Thompson.
Magee clocked a 59.02 in the 300 hurdles. Ponchatoula’s Niya Hunter won the event in 49.51.
Franklinton’s 4×100 relay team was third with a 1:02. The group featured Bickham, Thomas, Gross and Nielson. Kentwood won the race in 54.58.
Tran took fourth in the 800 in 3:04. Ponchatoula’s Jaydn Richard won it in 2:42.
Aleria Dillon was fourth in the shot put at 28-1. Covington’s Jasmine Brown won at 35-0.
Nielson took seventh in the 100 hurdles at 28.72. Ponchatoula’s Niya Hunter was the winner in 16.58.
Magee was fourth in the long hump at 13-10.5 and Warren was eighth with a distance of 12-9.75. Ponchatoula’s Talajha Hunter won with a jump of 15-5.
Alexia Mason and Aaliyah Young were eight and 12th in the 400 with times of 1:11 and 1:19. Covington’s Marissa Porter won in 1:05.
Gross took eighth in the 100 after running it in 13.78. Ponchatoula’s Talajha Hunter won in 13.21.
