5 Demons named to 1st team

Five Franklinton Demons have made the top all-district team for District 8-4A this season.

Offensive lineman Dakota Gulsby, running back Mike Martin, wide receiver Duke Bell, defensive tackle Carson Ragas and free safety Kian Conerly are the Demons’ first team players. Conerly is also a second-team special teams player.

This season, Martin ran for 1,176 yards on 227 carries (5.2 yards per carry) and 17 touchdowns. He also caught 10 passes for 109 yards (10.9) and a touchdown. He also threw for 35 yards.

Bell made 40 catches for 452 yards (11.3) and five touchdowns.

Ragas made 31 tackles, one for a loss, caused a fumble, and recovered one.

Conerly was solid this season in many aspects. He tallied 49 tackles, intercepted five passes and returned one for a touchdown, caused two fumbles and had a pair of passes defended. He and Grant Thomas were tied for the team in tackles. His forced fumbles tied him with Avant Monnie and Derek Shows for the team lead. Conerly led the team in interceptions.

Offensively, Conerly ran 42 times for 262 yards (6.2) and four touchdowns and he made 17 receptions for 255 yards (15) and three touchdowns.

In all, Conerly scored eight touchdowns — four rushing, three receiving and one from an interception return.

Offensive stats include the postseason. Defensive stats are for the regular season.

Besides Conerly, Franklinton’s second-team players are offensive lineman Zack Brumfield, fullback Spencer Lambert, wide receiver Shayland Allen, defensive end Malaci Martin and linebacker Jayonne Hart.

Lambert, who is a blocking fullback, ran for 16 yards and caught four passes for 60 yards and a touchdown.

Allen tallied 37 receptions for 516 yards (13.9) and three touchdowns.

Martin made 39 tackles, five for loss, three sacks and caused a fumble. Martin tied Ben Bickham for the team led in sacks and Martin’s tackles for loss led the team.

Hart posted 41 stops, recovered a fumble and had a pass defensed.

Franklinton’s all-district honorable mention players are linebackers Thomas and Chase Sheridan, defensive tackle Bickham and kicker Keaton Catrett.

Thomas recorded 49 tackles, one for loss, two sacks, an interception.

Sheridan made 31 tackles and recovered recovered a pair of fumbles.

Bickham posted 16 stops, two for loss and three sacks.

Cattret made 27 extra points for the Demons that included playoffs this season.

Franklinton reached the Class 4A playoffs this season, as the 30th-seed, but lost to reginoal round and third-seeded team St. Martinville, 55-42, in the opening round.

Franklinton is in a district Lakeshore and Pearl River.

Lakeshore and Pearl River reached the Class 4A state playoffs.

Lakeshore was the fifth seed, but lost to fourth-seeded and semifinalist Neville, 21-0.

Pearl River was the No. 13 seed and reached the regional round, but lost to Neville, 31-9.
