Franklinton High School’s Nate Bracey

Nate Bracey is a senior at Franklinton. Bracey is a pitcher and an outfielder, mainly centerfielder on the Demons’ baseball team.
Bracey was a first-team all-district player last season at pitcher.
“He’s just a great kid, hard worker,” Franklinton coach Jeff Tageant said. “Him and his brother (Jake) are out here weekends. They’re always wanting the key to get in to work out. He’s usually the first one here and the last one to go. That says a lot about him and he’s got a lot of ability and he’s going to have to pitch well this year for us to be successful.”

What do you enjoy most about playing your sport?
The mental aspect of the game. This game is like, it’s the most mental game I think that I’ve ever played. I played football and basketball, but baseball seems like it’s just like the hardest mentally. You have to control yourself.

What do you like best about being a student athlete?
The competition. You get to go out and compete and you make friendships that you wouldn’t have if it weren’t for that sport.

Who has been the most influential person in your school sports career? Why?
My parents (Jenene and Michael Bracey). They’ve helped me make decisions that I couldn’t have made also and they made me what I am today mainly.

Who is your favorite athlete? Why?
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. He’s a true leader. They lost to the Rams and he was out there on the field with his kids and stuff. He’s just a leader on-and-off the field. He’s what I aspire to be.

Favorite team?
Houston Astros and the New Orleans Saints.

Best thing about living in Washington Parish?
It’s so small and everybody’s so close. Everybody knows each other. It feels like home.
