FHS’s Givens takes 3rd at meet

SLIDELL — Franklinton’s Mason Givens took third place in his weight class at the Pope John Paul II Powerlifting Invitational that was held Saturday at PJP.
Givens recorded a 1,020 total after a 330 squat, 290 bench press and 400 deadlift in the super heavy weight division. St. Paul’s School’s Thomas Rushing won the weight class with a 1,180.
Four Washington Parish lifters were in the 275s.
Franklinton’s Zack Brumfield, Carson Ragas and Dakota Gulsby were fourth through sixth, with totals of 1,110, 1,080 and 1,060 respectively. Brumfield squatted 410, benched 275 and deadlifted 425. Ragas had a 425 squat, 250 bench and 405 deadlift. Gulsby posted a 435 squat, 200 bench and 425 deadlift.
Bogalusa added powerlifting this season and this was the Lumberjacks’ first meet.
Derek Keaton, who was one of three Bogalusa powerlifters, was seventh in the 275s after recording an 895. He squatted 315, benched 240 and deadlifted 340. St. Paul’s Jason Toupes was the winner with a 1,580.
Franklinton’s Drake Jenkins was fourth in the 198s and Bogalusa’s Alijah McLemore finished eighth. Jenkins had a 1,060 with lifts of 405 squat, 250 bench and 405 deadlift. McLemore squatted 260, benched 210 and deadlifted 335.
Franklinton’s Shelton Jenkins took fifth in the 165. He tallied a 1,010 with a 385 squat, 240 bench and 385 deadlift. Holy Cross’ Pascal Porche won with a 1,225.
Franklinton’s Josh Brewster posted a seventh-place finish in the 242s. Brewster lifted 970 total with a 405 squat, 185 bench and 380 deadlift. Teammate Joe Magee was 12th at 725 with a 295 bench and 430 deadlift. Slidell’s Cameron Williams won with a 1,400.
Three Demons were in the 220s.
Spencer Lambert was seventh, Griffin Owens took 15th and Morgan Athey was 17th. Lambert had a 995 with a 375 squat, 215 bench and 405 deadlift. Owens totaled 570 after tallying a 145 squat, 135 bench and 290 deadlift. Athey was at 410. He benched 120 and deadlifted 290. Slidell’s Bobbi Caulton topped the weight class with a 1,305.
Two locals were in the 148s.
Bogalusa’s Kevin Wells finished 13th with a 740 total. He squatted 250, benched 185 and deadlifted 305. Tylon Wilson was 19th. He benched 125 and deadlifted 230 for 355 total. Pope John Paul II’s Brady Becker won at 1,325.
Franklinton’s Shimon Davis was 10th in the 132s. He totaled 435 with a 175 bench and 260 deadlift. Holy Cross’ Ahmad Coleman won with a 1,255.
Franklinton’s Christopher Sumarall was sixth in the 181 with a 515. He squatted 225 and deadlifted 290. Holy Cross’ Alex Davis posted a 1,470 to win.
Holy Cross teammates Coleman and Davis won were the light platform (114-165 weight classes) and heavy platform (181-super heavy weight) outstanding lifters.
