Pair of local teams competed in Sugar Bowl Tournament

Franklinton and Pine’s girls basketball teams tallied 1-2 records in the Riverside Academy-Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic that took place Jan. 2-4 at the Alario Center in Westwego.
The Lady Demons’ two losses were by four points each.
Franklinton began the tournament with a 49-45-overtime loss to M.L. King Charter on Jan. 2.
Addison Carter and Danaria Magee tallied 14 points each to lead the Lady Demons.
Jalyn Bickham posted nine points and Kaniya Dillon had eight points.
Franklinton captured a 52-27 victory over East Jefferson the next day.
Carter led the Lady Demons with 17 points.
Miriam Tate recorded 14 points.
Dillon posted 11.
Carter recorded six points while Bickham and Bailey Brooks added two points each for the Lady Demons.
The final game, which took place Saturday, was a 39-35 setback to KIPP Booker T. Washington.
Magee and Tate were Franklinton’s leading scorers with 11 points each.
Bickham posted six while Dillon had four and Carter recorded three.
Pine lost its first two games.
The first was 65-34 to L.W. Higgins on Jan. 2.
The second day, the Lady Raiders came up short to Archbishop Chapelle, 31-28.
Pine rebounded on the final day with a 41-25 victory over Christ Episcopal School.
