LSU wide receiver Derrick Dillon made two important catches in the Tigers’ 40-32 Playstation Fiesta Bowl victory over the University of Central Florida at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. on Tuesday.
The 2015 Pine graduate caught his first pass of the day early in the second quarter.
LSU faced third-and-7 from UCF’s 49, trailing 14-10.
Dillon caught a pass across the middle at the 28 from Joe Burrow. He eluded a defender, used a block to help him reach the sideline, turned the corner and then outran a defender to the end zone and went the rest of the way for the touchdown, giving the Tigers a 17-14 lead after Cole Tracy’s extra point with 12:59 left in the first half.
LSU did not trail the rest of the game.
His second reception was also a third-down conversion with 9 yards to go, late in the third quarter.
LSU was up 34-24 and had the ball at its own 29.
Dillon’s second catch was for 37 yards. It continued a drive that used up 5:45 and ended with a Tracy field goal that made it 37-24.
Dillon finished the game with two catches for 86 yards and the touchdown.
This season, the junior made 22 catches for 307 yards and two touchdowns.
LSU went 10-3 this season.
The win over UCF snapped the Knights’ 25-game winning streak.
