Franklinton High School’s Sydney Ignacek

Franklinton’s Sydney Ignacek is a two-sport athlete. The senior plays soccer and is going to be on the powerlifting team this year.
Ignacek is a sweeper for the soccer team. Last year, she was a second-team all-district player in soccer.
“Unselfish kid. Had to change positions to fill a hole back there at the sweeper spot, which is a really difficult position to play and she’s stepped in and been huge for us,” Franklinton girls soccer coach Drew Brooks said. “She’s a leader, does anything you ask her to and always puts the team first, so I’m very proud of Sydney.”

What do you like best about playing your sports?
Just moving, being athletic, just getting my blood pumping and having an adrenaline rush.

What do you like best about being a student athlete?
I get to play with a team for my school and I get to represent my school.

Who has been the most influential person in your school sports career? Why?
My sister (2014 Franklinton High School graduate Jordan Ignacek). She played when she was in high school and I actually have the same number she has (17).

Who is your favorite athlete? Why?
(Two-time Olympic gold medalist and FIFA Women’s World Cup Champion) Abby Wamback because she’s just awesome and she gets headers in and (one of Ignacek’s teammates) Kennedy (Hughes) got a header (Dec. 11).

Best thing about living in Washington Parish?
The fair and it’s a small town. The Free Fair because it’s a lot of fun, it’s just a lot of people and it’s more of a culture type thing like it’s small town. You have Mile Branch and you get to see everything, how people used to live back in the day. Just being in a small town, you know everybody. You’re never really confused on whoever anybody is talking about.
