Franklinton goes 1-2 in tourney

SLIDELL — Franklinton’s Lady Demons posted a 1-2 record in the Slidell Tournament that took place Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Demons opened the event with a 58-20 victory over Covington.
Franklinton opened the game by scoring the contest’s first 24 points.
The run began with 5:47 left in the first period when Jalyn Bickham passed to Danaria Magee for a layup to make it 2-0. Magee split from the free-throw line at the 4:30 mark before Magee threw to Kaniya Dillon for two more and a 5-0 lead with 3:23 left. Miriam Tate made a field goal and Dillon hit a layup to make it 9-0 at the 2:34 mark.
Addison Carter made a steal and passed to Tate, who passed back to Carter for the layup. Tate recorded a steal and layup, making it 13-0. Franklinton blocked a shot that led to Tate hitting a layup with 1:01 on the clock. Magee drove for two with 32 seconds left. Bickham split from the line with 9.6 seconds to go, but Dillon grabbed the rebound that led to layup by Magee and a 20-0 lead.
It was 20-0 through one quarter.
The Lady Demons scored the first four points of the second period.
Dillon made a layup 20 seconds into the quarter and Magee made a steal, followed by a layup on the next possession.
The Lady Demons held Covington scoreless for the first 8:55 of the game.
Joey Henry put the Lady Lions on the board with a field goal to make it 24-2.
The Lady Demons led 37-7 at halftime and 55-10 through three quarters.
Nine players tallied points for the Lady Demons.
Dillon led the way with 14 points.
Magee was next with 12 points.
Tate posted 10 points for Franklinton.
Bailey Brooks tallied six while Carter and Bickham recorded five each, Eliziah Riley put up three, Ja’Chrystal Bell had two and Aniyah Cooper added one. Brooks made a pair of threes while Riley posted one.
Henry led Covington with seven points, which included a 3-pointer.
Alexia Mitchell posted four points, Erin Stafford had three and Brooklyn Blossman, Alanzae Alexander and Avione Fabre all tallied two.
The Lady Demons lost both games on Saturday, with setbacks to Slidell and Salmen.
Franklinton struggled from the free-throw line in both contests.
The loss to Slidell was 34-27.
Magee topped the Lady Demons with nine points.
Carter posted seven while Tate had five, Dillon recorded four and Bickham added two.
Franklinton was 2-for-11 from the charity stripe.
The final score against Salmen was 75-57.
Carter scored a career-high 27 points.
Magee posted 17 points.
Dillon recorded eight points while Tate had three and Bickham added two.
The Lady Demons were 9-of-30 from the free-throw line.
