SLIDELL — Pine’s Alaska Sullivan scored the equalizing goal in the 76th minute of a contest that ended in a 2-2 tie against Salmen on the road Tuesday night.
Pine was trailing 2-1 when Sullivan and others went after a 50/50 ball that was on the ground and on the left side of the field. The loose ball got past the goalkeeper, who had come out. Sullivan won the race to the ball and scored to make it 2-2.
“One of their defenders was trying to help their goalkeeper out and kind of got miscommunicated and the goalkeeper dropped it and that’s when I saw my chance,” Sullivan said.
Salmen got took a 1-0 in the 11th minute when Destiny Dominique dribbled upfield and tallied for the game’s first goal.
It stayed that way until the second half.
Pine tied the game early on when Mia Strahan took a shot from the right side of the goal and went to the upper part of the middle of the net and scored to make it a 1-1 game in the 44th minute.
“The girls are looking great this year. They’re playing excellent teamwork, they’re communicating together and really working hard for each other, being great and supportive,” Pine coach Matthew Butcher said.
Salmen retook the lead shortly after on a penalty kick by Mira Mae Simpson to make it 2-1.
Pine continued to attempt shots and was putting most of them on frame only to have them saved.
Sullivan got to a loose ball late and tallied the goal to even things up at 2-2 in the 76th minute and that’s how the game ended.
“We just wanted to come out here and we were really ready to win because I’ve seen a lot of improvement in our team, especially just the past couple of practices we had,” Sullivan said. “We came out here and we just wanted to give it our all and leave it all out on the field, so, we saw opportunities, we were taking them, we were making those passes, trying to get good connections and get open shots on goal.”
Pine’s next game is a road game against Franklinton on Tuesday.
