BHS, FHS competed at Lakeshore Tourney

MANDEVILLE — Bogalusa tallied a 1-2 record while Franklinton was 0-2 in the Titans Thanksgiving Basketball Classic 2018 that was held Nov. 19-21 at Lakeshore.
Bogalusa, which played a game each day, got off to a tough start in the tournament with a 90-19 loss to Slidell.
Quientay Henry topped the Lumberjacks with five points, which included a 3-pointer.
DaJuan Powell and Josh Taylor posted three each while T.J. Peyton, Chance Turner, John Downey and Charles Taylor had two each.
Bogalusa came back the following day with a 70-67 victory over Kentwood in a thriller.
The game went down to the wire.
Bogalusa had a 67-64 lead late in the game, but Rashard Robbins hit a shot, got fouled and converted the 3-point play to even the contest at 67-67 with 6.6 seconds left.
Bogalusa responded. The Lumberjacks went back down the court quickly and Peyton drove to the bucket, got fouled and his shot was good with 0.8 seconds left. Peyton then nailed the free throw for a 70-67 advantage.
Kentwood threw up a heave that was wide left from just behind the half-court line.
Peyton scored 22 points, which included a 3-pointer, to lead Bogalusa, while Robbins tallied seven.
The Lumberjacks trailed by as many as 19 at 35-16 with 2:48 left in the first half, but ended the second quarter on a 9-2 run, making it 37-25 at the break.
Bogalusa trimmed the lead to 52-42.
With the score 62-53, Bogalusa went in front 64-62 after scoring 11 unanswered points at the 2:31 mark.
Kentwood tied the contest at 64-64 with 1:06 to go.
The game went to the exciting finish, as Bogalusa won by three.
Josh Taylor posted 17 points and hit three shots from beyond the arc.
Turner, Henry and Charles Taylor all had eight and Raheem Roberts and Shad Gamble posted two each in the victory.
Kentwood’s Jaheim Diamond led all scorers with 42 points.
Terrance Williams posted eight while Roderick Brumfield had seven, Jamarcus Bacon posted three and Jerry Walls added two. Bacon hit a 3-pointer.
Bogalusa lost its final game of the event, which was last Wednesday, 64-34, to Northshore.
Powell and Peyton scored nine points each.
Josh Taylor and Turner posted four each while Roberts and Tony Harris added two each.
Franklinton played Nov. 19 and Nov. 21.
The Demons lost to Northshore, 60-45, on the first day.
The third quarter was the key.
Franklinton trailed 24-18 at halftime, but the Demons struggled with turnovers in the third quarter and were outscored 19-6 in the period and had a 43-24 deficit heading to the final period.
T.Y. Pope led the Demons with 18 points.
Kian Conerly posted nine points while Avant Monnie had eight, Cornelius Laurant recorded five, Albert Browhaw put up three and Kaleb Scott added two. Monnie and Conerly made two 3-pointers each while Laurant recorded one.
Tyrease Terrell was Northshore’s leading scorer with 17 points, which included three 3-pointers.
Michael Benedict tallied 12 points.
Mason Jobert put up 10 points and he hit a 3-pointer.
James Martin had nine while Fabian Hartley tallied five and Kendric McGee and Rob Vince scored three each and Kevin Page added one. Martin and Vince made a 3-pointer each.
Franklinton lost to Slidell, 74-48, two days later.
Browhaw topped the Demons with 14 points and he hit four 3-pointers.
Pope finished with 13.
Lorenzo Hart scored seven points while Conerly and Duke Bell had four each and Joshua Boughton and Monnie recorded three each. Hart, Boughton and Monnie all hit a 3-pointer.
