Bogalusa’s Lumberjacks suffered a 50-0 loss to Union Parish in the opening round of the Class 3A state playoffs Friday.
Bogalusa trailed 14-0 with 30 seconds left in the first half when Union Parish scored a touchdown to make it a 20-0 game at the break.
“Union Parish was the best team we played all year,” Bogalusa coach Adam Brumfield said. “The wet-muddy field favored them. They’re a big physical team that runs at you and those conditions favor teams like Union Parish. We’re a fast team and conditions like that slow us down, but at the end of the day, we didn’t do enough execution-wise to win a ballgame.”
Brumfield said that he is already looking forward to next season.
“Last year, I got the job in July and I was a little behind,” Brumfield said. “I’m looking forward to the offseason and getting better in the weight room. We’re getting most of our kids back (the team had seven seniors) and I think we have a bright future.”
No. 28 Bogalusa finished the season with a 4-6 record.
Fifth-seeded Union Parish improved to 9-2 and advanced to the regional round to play against 12th-seeded Jena. Jena is 9-2 after defeating No. 21 South Beauregard, 49-0. South Beauregard tallied a 5-6 record.
