FHS competes in Metro Championships

Franklinton’s Lady Demons competed in the 2018 Northshore Metro Cross Country Championships on Tuesday at St. Thomas Aquinas.
The Lady Demons had four runners.
Karina Alfaro, Dawn Kehoe, Danielle Gomez and Jessica Walter ran 121st, 128th, 130th and 134th with times of 33 minutes, 14 seconds, 36:04, 36:35 and 37:27 for the Lady Demons.
Academy of the Sacred Heart runners took the top two spots in the race.
Mary Nusloch won the event in 18:04.
Olivia Boyd was second in 19:21, followed by Christ Episcopal School’s Svenya Stoyanoff’s 19:24 and Ponchatoula teammates Belle Vignes and Blair Vignes, who ran times of 19:52 and 20:01 to round out the top five. There were 134 participants in the event.
Academy of the Sacred Heart won team honors with 32 points.
Cabrini was second at 87, followed by Isidore Newman’s 95, St. Thomas Aquinas’ 124 and Christ Episcopal’s 150. Thirteen schools qualified for team honors, and teams needed five runners to qualify.
Franklinton’s next competition will be the Class 4A state meet that will take place Tuesday at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.
