COVINGTON — Bogalusa’s Lady Jacks suffered a 25-5, 25-1, 25-1 loss to Archbishop Hannan in the bi-district round of the Division IV playoffs at Hannan on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
No. 32 Bogalusa finished with a 2-10 record.
This is the first time the Lady Jacks have reached the playoffs since the school brought back its volleyball program in 2015.
Bogalusa coach Racheal Galloway talked about the improvement her team made this year.
“Beginning of the season, they were just worried about putting the ball over the net — single hits, and now, they actually have a strategy. They’re using their bumps and their sets and actually have an attack on the ball,” Galloway said.
Bogalusa had four seniors on this year’s team in Yesica Castorena, Christeyona Baham, Dyamon May and Olayza Morris.
“(They are) awesome girls. Have a lot of team-building skills together,” Galloway said.
Top-seeded Archbishop Hannan made the state semifinals last season and was the state runner-up the two years prior. They played Pope John Paul II in Friday’s semifinal.
Bogalusa was competitive early in the opening game, as the Lady Jacks trailed just 4-2.
Archbishop Hanna broke the serve and ran off nine straight points to make it 13-2.
During the run, Grace Lagalante recorded four aces and Allee Morris had a block.
After the Lady Jacks tallied, Hannan scored went on another 9-0 run for a 22-3 lead.
Bogalusa got the serve back and scored another point, making it 22-5.
Hannan posted the final three points for the 25-5 final.
Bogalusa took a 1-0 lead in the second game, but Archbishop Hannan took over and scored 41 straight points. The Lady Hawks scored 25 in a row to win the second game, 25-1, and then 16 in a row to begin the third game.
After Bogalusa ended the run, Hannan scored 11 in a row to end the game in the 25-1 victory.
