Washington Parish Jamboree is today

Basketball will take center court today as the Washington Parish Jamboree takes place at Varnado High School.

Eight teams representing four schools are competing in the eight-game event.

The competition tips off at 5 p.m., with games beginning every 30 minutes.

Each contest features a pair of eight-minute quarters with a running clock.

The jamboree will open with a pair of girls games, with Pine facing Varnado at 5 p.m. and Bogalusa going against Franklinton at 5:30 p.m.

Up next is a pair of boys contests, as Pine faces Varnado at 6 p.m., followed by Bogalusa and Franklinton.

Two more girls games are next, as Pine plays Franklinton and Bogalusa goes against Varnado.

The final two games are boys contests with Pine going against Franklinton at 8 p.m. and Bogalusa facing Varnado to cap things off.

This year’s event has three new head coaches.

Aaron Luper is the new girls basketball coach at Varnado while Frank Gambino takes over the Bogalusa girls program and Jessica Barber is Pine’s new girls basketball coach.

Two of the boys teams made the playoffs last season, as Franklinton and Varnado reached the bi-district round.

All four girls teams advanced to the bi-district round of the playoffs last season.
