Demons head to St. Martinville

Franklinton’s Demons will begin their Class 4A state playoff run with a contest against St. Martinville on the road Friday at 7 p.m.
“We’re excited to put last week behind us and we look forward to a new season and the intensity of the playoffs,” Franklinton coach Jonathan Barber said. “Our kids are excited. Obviously, they’re a good opponent and they’re undefeated on the season, but we’re not going there happy to be in the playoffs, we’re going there to win.”
Franklinton had a 1,000-yard passer and a 1,000-rusher during the regular season.
Jasper LaSalle threw for 1,223 yards and eight touchdowns. Mike Martin ran for 1,128 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Duke Bell led the receivers with 33 catches for 348 yards and three touchdowns.
Shayland Allen caught 30 passes for 357 yards and a score.
Kian Conerly made 17 receptions for 255 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 254 yards and three touchdowns.
The 30th-seeded Demons went 4-6 this season. Franklinton lost to Pearl River, 23-13, in last Friday’s final regular season game.
Third-seeded St. Martinville went 10-0 this year. They topped Breaux Bridge, 30-28, last week.
St. Martinville was seventh in the final Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 4A poll.
The winner will face either No. 14 Belle Chasse (8-2) or 19th-seeded George Washington Carver High School (7-3).
